Ex-prison Officer Sentenced to Life

A former corrections officer at a federal prison has been sentenced to life in prison for violating an inmate’s rights by arranging to have him killed.

Erin Sharma, 33, was convicted of two civil rights violations in July. Prosecutors said Sharma was working at the Federal Correctional Complex in Coleman in February 2005 when inmate Richard Delano grabbed and bruised her arm.

She reportedly put Delano in a cell with a notoriously violent inmate, John McCullah, who was told to assault the other man when she wasn’t working. Delano was badly beaten March 4, 2005, and died about two weeks later.
